Year-long association kicks off this weekend

Supermarket chain Lidl has announced that the British Heart Foundation will be its first charity partner.

The BHF hopes the year-long partnership with the retailer, which has more than 500 stores in the UK, will raise about £100,000.

The partnership will begin this weekend with a Wear Red to Work Day event.

A spokeswoman for the British Heart Foundation said: "We are pleased to be working with Lidl so we can engage with their staff and customers."

The BHF's Heart Health Roadshow is expected to visit selected Lidl stores throughout the year as part of the partnership to encourage donations from Lidl customers and raise awareness of healthy living.
