National Autistic Society restructures
By Christina Farr, Third Sector Online, 1 July 2009
More power for regional offices and a focus on fundraising
A restructure by the National Autistic Society will hand more power to its offices in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. The charity said the move was part of a strategy to raise its profile in the regions and boost its fundraising potential.
The charity does not yet know how many members of its 2,900-strong workforce will be affected by the restructure, but confirmed that four regional director posts are likely be removed, and two national director posts are to be created.
Benet Middleton, director of communications at the charity, said it was unlikely that the restructure would result in job losses. "We're looking across the organisation," he said. "Some jobs might change, but those staff affected will be offered alternative roles."
The new strategy will also bring a greater focus on fundraising in a bid to avoid a heavy reliance on local authority funding, said Middleton.
A final plan is expected to be ready by the end of August, although the new strategy is not likely to be in place before October.
