Jenny Agutter becomes patron of St Giles Trust

- The actor Jenny Agutter has agreed to become a patron of the St Giles Trust, which works with ex-offenders and disadvantaged people. Agutter, who was awarded an OBE this month, is a long-standing supporter of the charity. "I am such a fan of the St Giles Trust and in awe of the people working there," she said. "I am touched and honoured that they have asked me to be a patron."

- Simon Hughes, deputy leader of the Liberal Democrat Party, has given his backing to a campaign by the homelessness charity Centrepoint aimed at restoring face-to-face careers advice for all under-25s.

- Tony HadleyThe former Spandau Ballet singer Tony Hadley (right) visited the Florence Nightingale Hospice in Aylesbury this month. He recorded a video message to be shown to walkers taking part in the charity's Midnight Walk, to be held on 14 July.

- Samantha Cameron, the Prime Minister's wife, visited the Richard House Children's Hospice in east London on 18 June, the start of Carers Week. She was given a tour of the facilities and spoke to some of the local families who receive support from the hospice.

- The former Strictly Come Dancing dancer Camilla Dallerup and her husband, the actor Kevin Sacre, were at the Westfield London shopping centre to support a pavement art recreation of a dirty waterhole by the charity WaterAid. The artwork was raising awareness of the charity's Big Dig Appeal to bring clean water to rural areas of Malawi.

- The weather presenter Kaddy Lee-Preston has given her backing to a celebrity shoe auction to raise funds for the orthopaedic charity the Horder Centre. The auction, which will be held on the website eBay from 8 July, includes shoes donated by the ice dancer Jayne Torvill and the wartime forces sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn.
