- The former professional tennis player Martina Navratilova is supporting Age UK's Gym Open Day, which takes place on 10 July. People aged 55 and over will be offered the chance to try out facilities for free at gyms operated by firms including David Lloyd Leisure, LA Fitness and Bannatyne's. "As a life-long tennis player, I'm supporting Age UK's Gym Open Day because I know how important it is to keep active throughout life," said Navratilova. "Exercise can be really rewarding and this is a great chance to try something new while reaping the benefits of being fit and healthy."
-Celebrities including the singer Emma Bunton, the heptathlete Jessica Ennis, the boxer Joe Calzaghe and the England goalkeeper Joe Hart have donated trainers that will be auctioned off on the website eBay to raise funds for Mary's Meals, which provides school dinners for children in some of the world's poorest countries. The Great Trainer Donation is part of Tesco's Great School Run.
- The superbike rider James Toseland (right) has become a celebrity ambassador for the Air Ambulance Service. Toseland was seriously injured in a motorbike accident in 2000 and was rescued by an air ambulance. He said: "Having been involved in a serious motorbike accident myself, when I was airlifted by an air ambulance, I know first hand the incredible work that these people do, day in day out."
- The actor Joanna Page has been appointed as an ambassador for the veterinary charity PDSA. Page, who starred in the sitcom Gavin & Stacey, said: "Pets are such an important part of people's lives - I love my dog Daisy to bits and could not bear to be without her. PDSA helps hundreds of thousands of sick and injured pets, saving lives every day of the week - and this service is funded entirely by public support."
- The actor Anita Dobson is asking people to give items to charity shops run by the British Heart Foundation as part of its Big Entertainment Stock Appeal. The campaign aims to generate a million saleable books, CDs and DVDs for the charity in July.
