HM Revenue & Customs predicts the amount claimed in 2011/12 will be up by £110m on previous year
Tax reliefs for charities and donors will be worth £3.63bn in the current financial year, a rise of £110m from 2010/11, according to estimated figures from HM Revenue & Customs.
HMRC predicts the amount of Gift Aid claimed by charities in 2011/12 will rise to £1.13bn, from £1.10bn in the previous year, and a rise in business rate relief from £1.22bn to £1.29bn.
Inheritance tax relief during the period is predicted to rise to £445m from £435m and higher-rate tax relief to £360m from £350m in 2010/11.
Overall tax reliefs to charities are predicted to be worth £2.73bn in the year, while overall reliefs for donors are predicted to be worth £900m.
The figures for Gift Aid include some transitional relief. This is funding announced in 2008 to compensate the sector for loss of tax relief caused by a fall in the basic rate of income tax.
Transitional relief ended last year. However, the sector is still making Gift Aid claims for donations made in the period in which it applied.
