The Charity Technology Trust announces that charities and not-for-profits are likely to pay a fee of between 4 and 8 per cent of the normal cost
Windows 8, the new operating system from Microsoft, will be available to charities for a fraction of its normal cost, the Charity Technology Trust has said.
The trust said that the software would be available through CTXchange, which offers charities free or very cheap copies of a number of different programs from IT suppliers. The exchange is the main service run by the CTT, which provides technology support to charities.
Windows 8, currently available commercially for about £50 per licence, will be available for a small administration fee, which CTXchange said was yet to be finalised, but is likely to be between 4 and 8 per cent of the normal cost. Charities can order up to 50 licences.
Richard Craig, chief executive of CTT, said: "Keeping up to date with the latest developments in technology is important for charities and not-for-profit organisations to be able to operate as they should. Through CTXchange, our members have access to products such as Windows 8, which they might otherwise be unable to afford but which are vital in helping them to run their organisations more efficiently."
