A man who was hitchhiking to Germany with an office chair to raise funds for Help for Heroes has been hospitalised after being mugged.

Rob Dawson-Goodey was taken to hospital last night after being attacked at a service station in Amiens, nothern France.

He was hit over the head and his attackers stole his passport, wallet, money, bag, phone and one shoe.

Dawson-Goodey is being sponsored to hitchhike from London to the World Office Chair Racing Championship in Laichingen in Germany, which takes place on Sunday.

So far he has raised £345 of his target of £1,000 for the forces charity.

His father is coming over to France to help him sort out the temporary passport he needs to get to the event.

In a statement, Dawson-Goodey said: "I’ve set out to raise money for Help for Heroes and that’s exactly what I plan to do. I am not going to let these people stop me."
