Mark Brunwin of Donate Mobile says it will not charge charities for joining a scheme that would typically donate £2 per customer per month

Charities are being offered the chance to sign up to a new mobile phone service that aims to raise £15m for good causes over the next five years.

Donate Mobile, which will be launched in October, will donate 10 per cent, including Gift Aid, of customers’ monthly mobile bills to their chosen charities.

Charities will not be charged for signing up to the service, according to a spokeswoman for Donate Mobile. She said the average phone bill in the UK was £20 a month, meaning a nominated charity would typically receive £2 a month per customer that selected it.

The spokeswoman said charities would also be able to send news and information about appeals, campaigns and events to their mobile supporters. They would also be able to send messages of thanks, she said, and the service would include text giving and donation smart phone apps.

Mark Brunwin, chief executive of Donate Mobile, said: "Through Donate Mobile, charities can reach both established regular givers and new supporters with personal and targeted messages.

"People are relying on their mobile phones for information like never before and there is a real opportunity for charities to use our service to deepen their relationships with donors."
