Zarine Kharas, chief executive of the online donation site, says the scheme was introduced to meet demand for web-based event registration

The online donations site JustGiving has joined forces with an online registration company to create an event management system for charities.

The partnership with Active Network will allow site users to register for events and create fundraising pages in one process.

JustGiving said the new tool would allow charities, companies and event managers to coordinate and manage their event registration and marketing online.

There are no up-front costs and it is free for charities to set up accounts. The system is available to be tested now and will be launched fully in the autumn.

Charities are charged once they begin accepting online registrations. Active Network’s standard charges are £1 per registrant plus a 6.5 per cent transactional fee. This fee can be passed on to participants as part of the ticket price or split between the participants and the charity.

To use the tool, charities must be JustGiving members, which costs £15 a month plus a 5 per cent fee on each donation made through its site.

Zarine Kharas, chief executive of JustGiving, said: "When we ask charities what they’d like to be able to do using JustGiving, online event registration consistently ranks as one of the top requests. The strategic partnership with Active Network will mean that online event registration and fundraising will soon be an integrated process."

Figures from JustGiving show that the number of organised events registered on its website increased from 238 in 2007 to 1,650 in 2011. But a survey of the site’s members found that only six out of 10 large charities manage registration for their events online.
