The Small Charities Coalition has been given charitable status by the Charity Commission.
The coalition, charity number 1122297, registered with the objective of promoting small charities for the benefit of the public. It aims to identify the needs of charities with annual incomes of less than £1m and to establish projects or policies to protect them.
Charities can become 'friends' of the coalition or join as full members. Friends are eligible to receive 24 hours of support on condition that they donate 24 hours to support other charities in return.
The coalition will provide legal, management and accountancy advice as well as information on fundraising and volunteering. It will also represent small charities in relation to government policies and legislation.
Founder Patrick Cox said on his blog: "It is a proud day when you find out the number of your charity."
Debra Allcock Tyler, chief executive of the Directory of Social Change, is chair of the governing body and one of 10 trustees.
