New Philanthropy Capital appoints new chief executive

By Emilie Filou, Third Sector Online, 30 January 2008

Martin Brookes is to succeed Nigel Harris as chief executive of New Philanthropy Capital.

The charity announced this morning that Brookes, currently research director at NPC, will take up the post in March. Harris made the decision to stand down after six years at the organisation so that he could focus on social investment and international development.

“It has been hugely rewarding and exciting to have worked with such a committed team, especially during a time when there has been such a transformation in philanthropy in the UK,” Harris said.

Brookes said he was delighted to take over as chief executive and would pursue the charity’s work to change the way donors think about giving money to charities and the way charities think about their effectiveness.

“We are delighted to have such a strong candidate as Martin to take NPC on to the next stage,” said David Robins, chairman of NPC. “Martin is the UK’s leading commentator on effectiveness in charities, and he and Nigel have worked closely together for six years to develop NPC’s unique mission.”
