Thirty London recycling and reuse charities form a partnership
By David Ainsworth, Third Sector, 13 July 2010
More than £10m in loans and grants for the London Reuse Network
More than 30 recycling charities have formed a partnership that will receive £8m of investment to encourage people in London to reuse resources.
The London Reuse Network, which is being led by the London Community Resource Network, will receive a £4.8m grant and a £3.2m loan from the London Waste and Recycling Board to promote recycling and reusing in the capital. The partnership, which has also been promised an extra £1.8m of grants and £500,000 in loans from other sources, will use the money to create 'reuse hubs' across London
Matthew Thomson, chief executive of the LCRN, said he hoped that by knitting together several existing networks the organisations would gain the resources they needed to grow.
He said a major advantage of the new partnership was that it would make it easier for reuse charities to share resources. "Charities will find it easier to get what they need because they will be able to share staff, technology, space and knowledge," he said.
