Digital campaign of the week: Trees for Cities

Support groups set up for campaigners
By Helen McKay-Ferguson, Third Sector Online, 27 April 2007
Campaigners are being invited to take part in new forums where they can share ideas and build links with one another.
The forums are being hosted by the Sheila McKechnie Foundation, a national charity that helps to support campaigners. “We will be connecting people at the forefront of social change with their peers, giving them a level of support that campaigners, unlike fundraisers, have not enjoyed in the past,” explained Claire McMaster, chief executive of the foundation.
Participants in the forums will be able to discuss campaigning methods, share concerns and develop solutions to the collective challenges they face. There will also be presentations on key topics such as new media.
The forums will be rolled out across eight regional areas of England this summer, following the success of a pilot forum in London which began in 2005. The Foundation hopes the forums will be of particular benefit to campaigners from smaller organisations who have little access to training.
The charity is encouraging campaigners to contact them directly and inform them of their interest. Forums of up to 20 members will then be created and meetings will be held twice a year.
The Foundation has received £22,000 to fund the forums from Capacitybuilders, the organisation that manages ChangeUp.
