Four fifths of readers think free-gift fundraising should be stopped
By Paul Jump and Ben Cook, Third Sector Online, 1 May 2007
Fundraisers should stop sending free gifts in their direct mailing according to Third Sector's latest online poll.
A resounding 82.5 per cent of respondents answered yes to the question "Should fundraisers stop sending pens and umbrellas?" Only 17.5 per cent said no.
Megan Pacey, director of policy and campaigns and the Institute of Fundraising, said there were “questions around the return on investment” when fundraisers send free gifts.

She added that the IoF is currently consulting on a code of practice for direct mail.
