RNID appoints new finance director

By Paul Jump, Third Sector, 4 May 2007

Charity Finance Directors' Group chair Paul Breckell has been appointed executive director of finance at RNID.

Breckell takes over from Bob Heathcote, who is retiring. He will join from the Christian Mission Society, where he was finance director for more than seven years, overseeing the charity’s relocation to Oxford.

Breckell described himself as a “change junkie” and said he had decided to look for a new challenge once the move was complete.

“I was going to step down in the autumn once the dust had settled but RNID approached me first and that was that,” he said.

Breckell added that he wanted the challenge of working in a larger organisation. “The RNID has a really good reputation in all the work it has done,” he said. “Bob Heathcote has really taken the charity forward in terms of all the impact reporting they've done, this is leading the sector in best practice and RNID is at the forefront.”

Breckell will begin his new job in July. RNID is currently looking for a replacement for chief executive John Low, who announced recently that he will be leaving to head up the Charities Aid Foundation. A spokesman said the charity hoped to advertise the post in the next few weeks.
