Fundraising: The end of leading questionnaires?

BUAV expands research guide
By Paul Jump, Third Sector Online, 9 August 2007
The British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection has expanded its guide to health charities that do not fund research involving animal testing.
Health with Humanity Charities Guide is designed to make it easier for people to donate to medical charities without worrying about inadvertently funding vivisection, and for jobseekers to avoid working for organisations that support animal testing.
The guide lists more than 50 charities that either fund medical research using non-animal alternatives or offer health services or health-related information services instead. A spokeswoman for the charity said the research, which was carried out in-house, was “deeper and broader” than previous editions of the guide.
“Consumers are taking a growing interest in making informed ethical choices in every area of their lives,” said Michelle Thew, chief executive of BUAV. “We already helps people choose cruelty-free cosmetics and household products through our Humane Cosmetics Standard – now we can help consumers to support humane health charities too.”
Last month, former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney announced that he would no longer give to cancer charities that test on animals. McCartney’s first wife, Linda, died of cancer in 1998.
Copies of the guide can be obtained by calling 020 7700 4888.
