Philanthropy advice service launches website
By Emilie Filou, Third Sector Online, 17 September 2007
Aspiring philanthropists can now turn to the web for a comprehensive guide to getting started. In an attempt to encourage people - whatever their backgrounds - to donate, giving advice service Philanthropy UK has set up a new site.
The site, at www.philanthropyuk.org , includes practical information such as advice on tax-efficient giving, background information on charitable giving in the UK, frequently answered questions and a philanthropy directory for those wishing to get in touch with advisers.
“Our aim is to support and encourage people who are serious about giving,” said Susan Mackenzie, director of Philanthropy UK. “With the dramatic increase in wealth in Britain, more individuals want to give. Some of them don’t have a history of giving in their families and don’t know where to start.”
Philanthropy UK was set up by the Association of Charitable Foundations and is supported by a number of organisations. Its principal funder is the Cabinet Office. It has already produced A Guide to Giving, the third edition of which will be published early in 2008.
