Acevo members back statutory powers for Compact

The majority of Acevo members think the Compact should be backed up with statutory powers, a poll has revealed.
In a survey of members of the chief executives body, 96 per cent of the 139 respondents said they supported statutory powers for the agreement, which outlines how public and third sector organisations should deal with each other.
Stephen Bubb, chief executive of Acevo, revealed the poll result in his online blog. He also criticised Compact Voice, the sector body that promotes the Compact, for failing to back the move. Compact Voice has argued that the partnership aspect of the agreement would be lost if it was made a legal requirement (Third Sector, 7 May).
“I have been disappointed that Compact Voice has not been as far behind this as it should,” wrote Bubb.
Simon Blake, chair of Compact Voice, said it was good news that the issue was being discussed. “The key thing is that it is brilliant that we have got the debate,” he said. “We need to make sure that people are contributing towards the debate and make sure that they understand what they are asking for.”
He said that the Office of the Third Sector, the Commission for the Compact and Compact Voice had drawn together a group of experts to look at potential options. The matter will be discussed at Compact Voice’s board meeting in July.
The Government has indicated that it will review the position in 2009.

I will very much appareciate your suppoport on being able to access the compact and how?.I have heard so much about the compact but have not read it so can not comment as much as I will like to.
