Disabled teenager wins fundraising award

A 19-year-old fundraiser who is blind, nearly deaf and a wheelchair-user has been named as Britain's most inspiring fundraiser at an award ceremony to commemorate the late Jane Tomlinson, the woman who raised £1.75m after being diagnosed with terminal breast cancer.

Nicole Dryburgh was recognised for setting up a fundraising website, which she has used to raise money for a number of charities, including King's College Hospital, where she has received treatment since being diagnosed with spinal cancer eight years ago. She is currently aiming to raise £30,000 for a new neuro-rehabilitation suite for the hospital and has so far raised £18,000.

Friends and family nominated Dryburgh for the competition, which was run by social enterprise search engine Everyclick.com. She was chosen from thousands of entries received from around the UK and received a £20,000 cheque from Everyclick.com to donate to her chosen charity, King's College Hospital.

On receiving the award, Dryburgh said: "It is absolutely amazing and a real honour to win this award. I don't fundraise to win awards or get praise, so it's nice when people recognise what you're doing, and it makes me want to continue with my fundraising."
