CFDG to road-test software aimed at smaller charities
By Patrick McCurry, Third Sector, 31 October 2007
The Charity Finance Directors' Group is planning to road-test a number of accountancy packages aimed at smaller charities.
Ian Gilmour, a member of the group's Entry-Level Software Special Interest Group, said the organisation had been researching such accounting packages to see what was on the market.
He said: "One of the problems for smaller organisations is that well-known packages can be expensive. We've been looking at what is available."
A software package aimed at smaller charities has recently been launched by accounting software firm Paxton. The Paxton Charities Accounting package was developed through the firm's fund accounting work with the British Army and the Royal Marines.
"There's a hole in the market when it comes to accounting packages for smaller charities, because most of the products are modifications of commercial packages," said Gareth Jones, chief executive of Paxton.
He said the software had been designed to allow charities to produce balance sheets for several funds and enable them to comply with Sorp 2005. It also has built-in facilities for handling donations and Gift Aid.
Paxton's package costs from £195.
