Carbon outputs: sector 'must act'

Charities that don't take action to reduce their carbon footprints are being irresponsible, according to Mike Robinson, the new chief executive of education charity the Royal Scottish Geographical Society.
Speaking at last week's Institute of Fundraising Scotland conference, Robinson said charities were affecting the very causes they worked to support by failing to revise their energy efficiency.
"Our effect on climate change has a direct impact on hundreds of thousands of people," he said.
Robinson said implementing energy efficiency measures would save charities money in the long term.
Fundraisers were warned to act now or be left behind: "There is funding available, so there is no excuse. Soon it will be standard and you will be seen as irresponsible for not doing it. It is completely inappropriate not to be seen to be doing what you can."
