Help with premises, contracts and employing staff for members of Scots social enterprise body
Scottish social enterprise umbrella body Senscot is drawing up proposals to create a law firm for non-profit businesses that will be a social enterprise itself.
Aidan Pia, chief executive of Senscot, said most of the responses to a survey of members about the idea had been very positive. He said the community right to buy, which allows small communities in Scotland the opportunity to register interest in purchasing land, and the rise of public service outsourcing meant that more social enterprises needed a law firm that could help them to buy property, bid for contracts and employ staff.
He was unable to say whether it would be cheaper than traditional law firms.
"But it goes without saying that ideally it will be a more attractive proposition," he said.
Detailed proposals will be issued next month after discussion with the Law Society of Scotland.
