Acevo brings out procurement guide for voluntary sector

Four online guides to help charities procure public sector contracts have been published by Acevo, the umbrella group for charity chief executives.

The guides cover negotiation, tendering, VAT and reporting the impact of work. They are based on a series of seminars that drew on the experience of 300 third sector leaders and commissioners from across the country.

Orli Gorenski, head of Acevo’s full cost recovery programme, which helps to calculate project costs, said a recent survey by the Improvement and Development Agency, which works to encourage best practice in local government, found that 65 per cent of commissioners doubted the third sector could deliver public service contracts.

“This project is timely in addressing concerns from the public sector that the third sector is not fit for purpose,” she said.

Acevo will also be improving its support and advice in public sector procurement, through a new income generation department.
