Who is your chair?

Andrew Purkis has been our chair since 2009. He has also been the chair of Living Streets, the Green Alliance and the Empty Homes Agency, and he is a board member of the Charity Commission.

How many trustees do you have?

We have 10, none of whom is paid to be a trustee. One is also a representative of ActionAid International and the ActionAid International director for west and central Africa. We are currently recruiting two more trustees.

How do you recruit?

Trustee and staff recommendations and adverts on our website. From time to time, we use head hunters and other external advertising.

How often does the board meet?

Five times a year, including four business meetings and a two-day board retreat. The board has two sub-committees: the governance and board development committee and the performance, finance and audit committee. These both meet four times a year.

When was the last governance review?

We recently had an extensive governance review. We are still awaiting the final report, but it will concentrate on issues such as the case for establishing a UK assembly for supporters.

What issues is the board talking about at the moment?

We are currently planning our next five-year strategy. The strategy is being developed internationally and in the UK.
