Alliance promotes strategies to cope with child rearing

A new free booklet and video providing realistic advice for parents on how to cope with "meltdown moments

is being released by the National Family and Parenting Institute.

The Institute has got together with the Department of Health and Tesco to support the campaign in a bid to reassure parents that "nobody gets it right all the time".

Entitled From Breakfast to Bedtime, the campaign draws heavily on the experiences of parents in looking after their own children, recognising that being a parent to an energetic young child can mean not only amazing moments but also tearing your hair out.

The 15-minute video includes a father and daughter having breakfast and getting dressed, a mother with her young son having a tantrum in a supermarket, and tips from parents on how to cope with bringing up a child.

The video and booklet have been developed with help from organisations including the Institute of Psychiatry, Community Practitioners and Health Visitors Association, along with the NSPCC.
