The best finance team category in Third Sector Excellence Awards seeks to champion the vital role that charity finance professionals play in the management and operation of modern charities. It will reward motivated, dynamic and innovative finance teams, whose members have worked together to achieve or exceed their targets.

"Finance teams are an integral part of running a charity are increasingly claiming their rightful place at the heart of their organisations," said Stephen Cook, editor of Third Sector. "But their important work often goes uncelebrated. This award seeks to put that right."

The new awards were among a number of a major expansion of the Third Sector Excellence Awards. The number of categories has been increased from 14 to 24 to recognise the whole spectrum of roles and disciplines involved in running a successful charity.

The categories cover seven key aspects of running a charity: finance, fundraising, communications, partnerships, At work, governance and innovation. Other new categories include best use of the Compact, employee innovation, Most improved trustee board, accountability and transparency and enterprise.

The awards criteria have also been refined and clarified to make it entry easier.
