Call for sector say in social mobility

Charities minister Kevin Brennan has called on sector organisations to make sure they have a say in how the Government improves social mobility ahead of the publication of a white paper on the subject after Christmas.

Last week, the Cabinet Office released a discussion paper, Getting On, Getting Ahead, which showed that social mobility had remained largely stable between 1970 and 2000. The paper said the Government could have the greatest impact on social mobility in its provision of early years childcare, education, further education and workplace skills.

Brennan said: "The Government cannot achieve improved outcomes without a partnership with the sector organisations that work with them. I am listening to the views of the sector and will ensure they are represented in the white paper."
