They called it puppy love

Blue Peter presenter Andy Akinwolere is preparing to help eight-week-old puppy Magic through her guide dog training.

As part of the children's programme's association with Guide Dogs, Akinwolere will help the golden retriever to learn basic commands and become familiar with the people and places that guide dogs encounter.

Blue Peter has been following Magic's progress. More than 40,000 viewers took part in a competition to choose her name and the final decision was revealed on air on 16 October. According to Guide Dogs spokeswoman Nikki Wright: "Our 40-year association with Blue Peter has helped to make the charity what it is today." Since 1965, five Blue Peter presenters have helped to train guide dogs, including Valerie Singleton (1965) and Peter Duncan (1981).

Akinwolere will be one of more than 1,300 UK volunteers who help to house and train guide dog puppies.
