Campaigning coalition targets MPs with message about prostate cancer

The Prostate Cancer Charter for Action is marking the start of Prostate Cancer Awareness Week with the launch of an action pack for politicians.

The campaigning coalition, which is made up of charities, patient groups and professional organisations, is sending the pack to every UK MP to emphasise that the disease affects every constituency.
The pack provides background information on prostate cancer, and gives ideas about how MPs can raise awareness in their constituencies and encourage local NHS services to implement the best national standards of treatment and care.

"MPs can play a crucial role in raising public awareness of prostate cancer," said Spokesman Mike Birtwistle. "This week is Prostate Cancer Awareness Week and it is sobering to think that nearly 200 men will die of the disease during the course of only one week - more than one man every hour.

"Hopefully the action pack will help give all politicians the tools to get involved in the fight against this major killer."
