Charity Commission flags more charities on online register
By Paul Jump, Third Sector Online, 16 June 2009
Those subjected to an inquiry or run by interim management will be highlighted
The Charity Commission has updated its online register to show when a charity has been subject to a recent inquiry or is being run by an interim manager.
If a charity has been the subject of an inquiry or regulatory case report, a link to the report will be included in the side bar of the charity's register page for six months (for example, the Tom Amos Charity). Where interim managers are in place, this is indicated at the top of the charity's entry (for example, Saint Stephen the Great).
Andrew Hind, chief executive of the commission, said the move was about increasing the visibility of the reports and making information about charities more accessible to members of the public.
"A recent survey of users of the commission's website has shown that whereas the majority of visitors are staff or volunteers for charities, one in five visitors is a member of the public, and the top reason for visiting is to find information on charities."
There are currently nine inquiry reports and two regulatory case reports on the commission's website.
