'Bright healthcare ideas' can win funding

By Kate Youde, Third Sector Online, 6 October 2009

NHS North West launches InnovateNoW - and charities can apply

Third sector organisations can swap their "bright ideas" about healthcare for a share of £1.9m of funding under a new NHS scheme.

NHS North West is inviting charities, not-for-profit organisations and voluntary sector healthcare providers to collaborate with its staff to suggest ways of delivering better care for patients across the region.

The strategic health authority has launched InnovateNoW, a five-year programme to "create long-term improvements in healthcare by encouraging the adoption of innovative services".

Funding ranging from £5,000 to £250,000, through three different award schemes, will be available to help staff implement their ideas and train other people.

Bids must come from NHS and primary care trusts in the region but can include partnerships with healthcare providers, such as charities, based anywhere in the UK.

The deadline for the first round of funding applications is 23 October.
