A system that would enable organisations to apply for charitable status online has been delayed. The Charity Commission said it would decide when online registration would go live in the next few weeks.
"It's a complex project we want to get right, so we can make the process of applying more accessible," said a spokeswoman.
But most elements of the regulator's registration process, which the Directory of Social Change has criticised for asking charities too many unnecessary questions, will continue.
"Although we want to smooth the way, this won't mean we'll stop asking questions about how prospective charities operate, their purposes and whether this is the right legal form for them," said the spokeswoman.
