A new guide to charity investment has been published by the Charity Finance Group and the Charity Investors’ Group.

The guide, which is available to download free as a pdf document, is designed to help charities develop their investment policies.

It includes sample policies for charities of different sizes, ranging from organisations holding nothing but cash or a single-fund investment to large foundations that carry out major investments for financial gain and to further their charity’s objects.

Caron Bradshaw, chief executive of the CFG, said: "Charities hold more than £85bn in investment assets and it’s crucial that they have proper governance in place.

"A written policy provides the framework for making investment decisions, helping trustees to manage a charity’s resources effectively and demonstrate good governance.

"We are regularly approached by charities seeking support, guidance and good practice examples of how others have developed their policy, so we know that this practical guide will be a valuable resource for many."
