Charity launches own phone range

Marie Curie Cancer Care has become the first charity to market its own brand of mobile phones.

The charity is publicising Marie Curie Charity Phones in partnership with telecommunications company UTel Communications.

The affiliate marketing scheme allows supporters to donate up to £125 each when they buy new mobile and call packages from UTel's Marie Curie range.

Imran Soorty, corporate development fundraiser at Marie Curie, said that the charity would be publicising the phone deals in direct mail packs to supporters and through its community fundraising team.

"We will receive an average donation of £65 per phone sold, and we hope to sell five a day," Soorty said.

Two of the charity's magazines, In Good Company and Marie Curie People, will also carry details of the offers.
