ChildLine uses new funding to expand night service

ChildLine is expanding its night telephone service using money raised from BT Yahoo!

The support service, run by the NSPCC, wants to recruit more counsellors in Birmingham and Glasgow to staff its telephone helplines and hopes to be able to answer more than 1,000 calls a night from children in crisis.

BT Yahoo! has pledged to give 5 per cent of the income it generates from advertisers that sponsor links on its dedicated ChildLine web page.

Research from Ofcom has shown that time spent online has grown fourfold between 2002 and 2007, from six minutes to 24 minutes per person per day.
