Children's charity director faces sexual assault and child pornography charges

Young Person's Advisory Service chief arrested after police search his home

The director of a Liverpool-based children's charity has appeared before Wirral Magistrates court charged with sexual assault and possession of child pornography.

Matthew Byrne, director of the Young Person's Advisory Service, was charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm, one of false imprisonment, one of sexual assault and one of being in possession of an indecent image. He is due to appear before Liverpool Crown Court on 16 July.

Byrne was arrested after an investigation by British Transport Police and the case was taken over by Merseyside police after a search of his home.

No one at the Young Person's Advisory Service was available for comment.
