The Children’s Society launched its annual Christingle campaign with a service at Westminster Abbey attended by more than 800 children.

Schoolchildren from private and state schools all over London were invited to attend the service.

The charity hopes to raise more than £1m to help vulnerable young people as part of this year’s campaign.

There will be thousands of Christingle candlelit services in aid of the Children’s Society around the UK in the run-up to Christmas.

This year, the Children’s Society is putting the focus of the campaign on raising funds to support some of the 100,000 young people who run away from home each year.
