When Christine Napthine, PR manager of Chase Hospice in Surrey, found herself snowed in this week she got busy by building a branded snowman.

Napthine admitted that no passers-by stopped to give donations, but remained optimistic about the snowman's ability to promote her cause. "It was the talking point among the neighbours," she said.

Charity staff across the country were working from home this week as snow and ice disrupted commuters.
