Communications News: Arthritis Care calls for condition to be part of GP Contract

Arthritis Care has stepped up its efforts to raise the profile of arthritis in government policy by calling for a UK-wide strategy that delivers agreed standards of care.

The charity is lobbying MPs to back the inclusion of arthritis in the GP Contract so as to incentivise doctors to meet targets on the condition as with other illnesses.

The call is backed up by its OA Nation report, published earlier this month, which shows that 81 per cent of the 8.5 million osteoarthritis sufferers are in constant pain.

"The report is evidence that there is a huge problem in the UK and one which we must address," said Neil Betteridge, director of public affairs.

It also shows that 53 per cent of the 1,762 interviewees struggle to get out of bed when their condition is at its worst.
