Communications News: CAB calls on MPs to address debt crisis

Citizens Advice used a seminar run by the Conservative party at the House of Commons last week to call on the Government to implement an effective strategy to tackle the mounting debt crisis.

The number of people calling the charity's debt helpline has increased by 44 per cent in the past six years.

"There is an urgent need for action to prevent and tackle debt," Teresa Perchard, the charity's director of policy, told MPs during the seminar.

She called for a range of initiatives including the promotion of responsible lending and borrowing, better value credit deals for people on low incomes, and increased availability of free money advice.
