COMMUNICATIONS NEWS: Coalition demands a revision of policy on home care cost

A group of 200 charities and local organisations have released a report calling on the Government to revise its charging policies for home care.

The Coalition on Charging, whose members include Mencap, the MS Society, the Disability Alliance and Carers UK, argues that local councils should limit increases in charges for home care and provide clear information about changes to service charging.

Entitled Costs of Care, the report relies on a survey undertaken after the Government introduced guidance for local authorities on fairer charging for non-residential care services. It reveals that half of those interviewed have been affected by uncontrolled increases in service charging. In one case, a 73-year-old man saw his service charges increase tenfold in a year.
