GirlGuiding UK is holding its first National Recruitment Week to find Guide Leaders to cope with a surge in membership enquiries from girls wanting to join the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.
In the past year, the organisation has seen membership enquiries increase by 70 per cent on the back of heavy marketing to parents, and there are currently 50,000 girls on waiting lists to join local groups. But the charity hasn't been able to match the demand with women volunteers willing to run Rainbow, Brownies and Guides clubs.
GirlGuiding UK is planning a poster and press advertising campaign in selected regions that appeals to women to 'Stop the premature signs of ageing' by becoming a GirlGuide UK leader or helper.
"The personal fulfilment that comes from volunteering is something that many women today see as a dimension that is missing from their lives," said a spokeswoman for GirlGuiding UK. "We're hoping to show women that becoming a GirlGuide leader is the perfect antidote for the large number of women who are increasingly disillusioned with their lives."
