Communications News: Media monitor gets writer for TV panel

Mental Health Media has secured TV screenwriter Paul Abbott as a new judge for its 11th awards, to celebrate effective understanding of mental health on TV and radio programmes.

The charity hopes that Abbott's attendance will help attract and increase media coverage of this year's event in October.

Katie Brudenell, PR manager, said that Abbott, writer of Shameless, State of Play and Clocking Off, would be a huge boost. "He is very vocal about having bi-polar disorder and will offer a unique perspective to our judging panel."

The charity is inviting broadcasters and production companies to make nominations via a new website, www.mhmawards.org.
