Communications News: Near the knuckle

Domestic violence charity Refuge has relaunched a poster from its 'Don't Ignore It' campaign to coincide with the summer wedding season. The poster shows a wedding scene where guests appear oblivious to a man beating his wife, and is part of a series of awareness ads depicting domestic violence occurring and being ignored in public places. Refuge launched the campaign earlier this year after research revealed that 42 per cent of people have witnessed a person being verbally or physically abused in a social situation. It hopes that reissuing the poster will highlight the fact that society continues to hide, excuse and ignore domestic violence. The Refuge wedding poster, which was designed by agency McCann Erickson, will appear in London Underground stations throughout August.
