Communications News: Newswire reaches charity story target ahead of schedule

The Community Newswire has put out its 1,000th story, two weeks ahead of schedule.

The newswire, a Home Office-funded partnership between the Media Trust and the Press Association, began in June to increase media coverage of charity issues.

The service has enabled small community groups to get exposure in publications ranging from The Times to the Daily Star and on Sky News.

“The response has been fantastic,” said Ben Pindar, Community Newswire’s news editor.

Organisations file press releases and photographs through www., and PA reporters then turn them into stories and upload them.

The service is free and there is no limit on the number of releases organisations can send.
