COMMUNICATIONS NEWS: Stonewall lobbies MPs with study on multiple prejudices

Lesbian and gay equality charity Stonewall recruited former cabinet minister Chris Smith last week to host the launch of its first major report under new chief executive Ben Summerskill.

The report, Profiles of Prejudice, found a link between racism, homophobia and other prejudices. Copies were handed out to MPs, civil servants and voluntary sector bodies dealing with equality.

The report was based on a poll asking people which minority groups they dislike. It showed that people who were racist were twice as likely to be homophobic than the population as a whole.

Project manager Ali Harris said: "We want the Government to see the connections between different prejudices such as racism and homophobia, as we need to tackle it as a whole."
