COMMUNICATIONS NEWS: YWCA helps young parents with issue of new handbook

A new guide out this week aims to engage voluntary organisations and the Government in a fresh dialogue on helping young parents.

YWCA produced Supporting Young Parents because although parenting is high on the political agenda, there is little actual recognition that sometimes people need help in bringing up children.

The guide, which is funded by the Home Office, examines current policy, models of good practice and how the sector and politicians can do more to help people aged under 30 with children.

YWCA was given the money to evaluate its work in the 180 programmes it runs to help young women at 21 locations in England and Wales. Its findings form the basis of the guide, which is due to be launched at this week's YWCA conference in Birmingham.
