Disability charities merge

Disability charity Scope is to absorb Dial UK, the umbrella organisation for disability advice groups.

The move will lead to the creation of expanded national advice and information network for disabled people. Dial UK's network of about 120 local groups will remain independent, but will be coordinated by Scope Response.

Jon Sparkes, chief executive of Scope, said: "Scope is working towards becoming an ally of disabled people and their organisations, and this merger is an excellent example of how we intend to use our organisational capacity to enable local disabled people's organisations to thrive."

The merger, which was approved by the local groups in a vote, will take effect from 1 August.
