Disabled children's group targets MPs with family report

Contact a Family, a charity for families with disabled children, is strengthening its political voice by lobbying local authorities and central Government.

Results from its survey, Everybody Here?, looked at play and leisure activities for disabled children and were presented to coincide with Carers Week. Contact a Family chief executive Francine Bates said the results will provide evidence to Government bodies with a view to generating recommendations for improving access to leisure facilities.

For example, the survey found over half of the one thousand parents of disabled children that responded were made to travel out of their local area to find suitable facilities.

An exhibition in Parliament also hopes to inform constituency MPs about a wide range of issues affecting the disabled community and will help unveil the charities new corporate image, showcasing a speech bubble depicting its role as an information provider.
