Fashion editor takes celebrity role at Macmillan

Macmillan Cancer Support has appointed the former executive editor and entertainment director of international fashion magazine Elle as its VIP and celebrity executive.

Christopher Hemblade is expected to take up the new role in July. He joined Elle three and half years ago after nearly five years as deputy editor Time Out magazine. Before that, he was deputy editor of film magazine Empire.

“Having done 15 years of celebrity wrangling for various magazines, I felt I wanted to deploy those skills for a charitable concern that is close to my heart, which Macmillan is,” said Hemblade.

Mark Silverside, director of communications at Macmillan, said the charity took its work with VIP supporters and celebrities very seriously and Hemblade’s appointment was intended to drive it forward in this area.

Ciarán Devane, chief executive of Macmillan, said: “Chris is going to be making waves and will have a significant input across many areas of the charity.”
